The 8th House was created in 2025 by Chloe Bramble. Through a partnership with AfterWords Literary Festival, The 8th House was able to secure funding for its inaugural year from the Nova Scotia Department of Culture, Communities, Tourism, and Heritage.

Chloé Bramble (she/they) is an artist, community organizer and veterinary technician from the beautiful island of Waladli. She creates opportunities for BIPOC artists to gather, learn, create and share their work. As an artist, Chloé practices writing and textile arts. Through her work, Chloé strives to create environments that celebrate their fellow Black community members. They are currently settled in Kjipuktuk, on the unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq.
The AfterWords Literary Festival was founded in 2019 by Stephanie Domet and Ryan Turner. Rooted in Kjipuktuk in Mi’kma’ki, the festival offers accessible year-round programming and opportunities, in order to foster a love of words, books, and stories; to develop aspiring writers of all ages and communities, especially those historically underserved; and to inspire people of all communities to read, learn, and create.
AfterWords Literary Festival events are conceived, planned, and presented in Kjipuktuk, in beautiful unceded and unsurrendered Mi’kma’ki. Mi’kmaq people have lived on and stewarded this land since time immemorial, as they continue to today.
